The short version: your tasting journal is private to your account, our server logs never contain what you type, and we never sell data. Ever.
Your tasting journal — private to your account, on every device
Your Palate Profile — every session, read, and reveal you save — is stored on your device and, when you add your email, synced to your private account so your history follows you across browsers and devices (the whole point of tracking your progress). It's tied to your email, never shared, never sold, and never used to train anything. You can export it as a file any time, and you can permanently delete it — from your device and our servers — whenever you like. It remains yours even if you cancel a membership or request a refund. Enter no email and it simply stays on the device you poured on.
Email, and your choice about it
When you add your email to sync your journal, we store it to key your account and keep your history in sync across devices. If — and only if — you check the optional "occasional pours and updates" box, we also add your email to our mailing list; leave it unchecked and we never email you marketing. Either way we never sell your email, and every marketing message carries a one-click unsubscribe.
What our servers see, and what they keep
When you run a session, your inputs are sent to our server and relayed to our AI provider (Anthropic) to generate the guide's responses. Our server logs record only counts, timings, and status codes — never bottle names, your tasting notes, or the guide's responses. Session content is processed to answer you and is not stored by us.
Anonymous identifiers
We store a random, anonymous identifier in your browser to count free sessions and prevent abuse. It is not linked to your name, email, or any profile.
Payments
Paid memberships are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card details. To unlock access, we verify your purchase with Stripe and store a signed access token in your browser. If you use "Restore access," the email you enter is sent to Stripe to locate your membership — we do not keep it.
If you join the list
If you choose to give us your email address — like signing up from the All-Time Favs list — we store it and use it to send occasional updates and offers from The Bourbon Brother and the Bourbon Brothers universe. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, we never sell or share the list, and you can ask us to delete your address entirely at any time: [email protected].
Analytics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, a cookie-free, privacy-first measurement tool. No advertising trackers run inside the app.
Our public marketing pages (this site's landing and checkout-confirmation pages — never inside the app itself) use the Meta Pixel, a measurement tool from Meta Platforms, Inc. It sets cookies and reports anonymous ad-measurement events to Meta: that a page was viewed, that someone joined the mailing list, opened the app, started a checkout, began a trial, or completed a purchase, along with the amount for the money events. We never send Meta your name, email, or anything you type — event data is limited to the event name, a fixed label naming which offer or page section was used, the value, and the currency. Meta's use of this data is described in Meta's Privacy Policy. You can limit ad tracking through your browser settings or Meta's Ad Preferences.
Age
This service is for adults of legal drinking age (21+ in the US). We do not knowingly collect any information from anyone under 21.
Your choices and rights
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising as those terms are defined under U.S. state privacy laws. Deleting your journal is in your hands: clear it from the app or your browser storage any time, and if you've synced it to your account, the app's "delete my history" also wipes the server copy. For any privacy question or request — access, deletion, or anything else — email us and we will respond: [email protected].
Where this service operates
The Bourbon Brother is operated from the United States and intended for U.S. users of legal drinking age. If you use it from elsewhere, you're responsible for compliance with your local rules on alcohol-related content.
